The People
James Lyon
Director/Chief Remote Pilot
As a qualified electrical engineer, former territory manager for Heritage Seeds and former Elders Agronomist, the focus on precision agriculture comes as no surprise for James. The idea of using a spray drone to control weeds on farm at Nowendoc struck James in late 2020, and the development and setup of LyonAg Drone Solutions followed through 2021.
Mitch Scrivener
Remote Pilot
Mitch is the second pilot to become a fully qualified member of the LyonAg Drone Solutions team. From a farm in Yarrowitch, NSW, Mitch has always had a keen interest in agriculture. A Bachelor of Rural Science (UNE) graduate, he started working on farm for LyonAg in late 2020. He has witnessed and been involved in the development of the LyonAg Drone Solutions operation, and has a strong interest in the drone-driven future of precision agriculture systems in Australia.
The DJI Drones
DJI Agras T40
The Agras T40 is the latest introduction to the extensive DJI agriculture range. Capable of carrying 40L of spray and 50kg of spreadable material, the Agras T40 pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved with drones.
DJI Agras T30
The Agras T30 has been the mainstay of LyonAg Drone Solutions aerial operations through 2022 and into 2023. With a 30L spraying payload, and a 40kg spreading capacity, the T30 covers a significant area per flight. LyonAg utilises up to four of these drones in the field.
DJI Matrice 300 RTK
The Matrice 300 RTK is the basis of LyonAg’s imaging and photogrammetry services. As shown, the M300 is equipped with a Zenmuse P1 45 megapixel camera. Using images from the P1, a 3D map and precise flightpath can be generated for use with the Agras spray drones. Alternatively, the MicaSense RedEdge Dual Camera can be fitted, allowing multispectral imaging in 10 bands. From this, a variety of multispectral index maps can be generated, such as NDVI.
DJI Agras T20
The Agras T20 was the original workhorse of LyonAg Drone Solutions. With a 20 litre capacity, the T20 is an ideal solution for both spot and blanket spraying. By swapping out the spray tank for a 20kg hopper and spreader attachment, the T20 transforms into an effective spreading tool, particularly at lower rates per hectare.
We no longer operate our Agras T20, focusing more on our newer model Agras drones.
